Registro faunístico del sitio Mariano Miró: las prácticas alimenticias de los primeros colonos en el norte de La Pampa a principios del siglo XX

Abstract

In this article, the faunal record recovered at the Mariano Miró site located in the northeast of the dry pampa (Chapaleufú department, La Pampa Province, Argentina) is analyzed. Mariano Miró was a town founded in 1901 alongside the station of the Western Railroad and, although the population stood at about 500 inhabitants, it had been hastily abandoned in 1911. Given the cultural and temporary characteristics of the settlement, the aim of the present study is to discuss the consumption practices of the colonists settled on the site during the first decade of the 20th century, to establish indicators of continuities and ruptures around food consumption, and analyze the connection with other social practices of the rural Pampean space. The taxonomic, anatomical and taphonomic analysis of the faunal set are presented and the data obtained is compared with those of other neighboring Pampean sites, occupied a few years before by different social groups. As a result, from the zooarchaeological analysis, changes in the consumption practices of the meat products were observed in all of their stages: obtaining, processing, distribution, preparation, intake and discarding.From this study we can infer that the overall pattern of animal meat supply/consumption has changed considerably, from hunting of wild prey or domestic breeding to an actively marketing through local butchers. The materiality of Mariano Miró accounts for a new organization and distribution of the faunal resource consumption, closer or similar to that observed in small growing cities, breaking up the configuration of the rural area of the Pampas at the end of the nineteenth century.

En este trabajo se analiza el registro faunistico recuperado en el sitio Mariano Miro ubicado en elnoreste de la pampa seca (departamento Chapaleufu, La Pampa, Argentina). Alli se fundo un pueblo en1901 a la vera de la estacion homonima del Ferrocarril Oeste y, si bien llego a tener alrededor de 500habitantes, fue abandonado en 1911. Dado las caracteristicas culturales y temporales del asentamiento,como objetivos de estudio se propone discutir las practicas de consumo de los colonos asentados en elsitio durante la primera decada del siglo XX y establecer indicadores de las continuidades y rupturas entorno al consumo alimenticio y su vinculacion con otras practicas sociales del espacio rural pampeano.Para ello, se comparan los datos obtenidos con los de otros sitios pampeanos vecinos, ocupados unospocos anos antes por diferentes actores sociales.A partir de la informacion obtenida se distinguen cambios en las practicas de consumo de los productoscarnicos en algunas de sus etapas. Se infiere que el patron observado responderia a una disminucionde las practicas de auto abastecimiento mediante la caza de presas silvestres o la crianza domestica deganado y a un aumento en el consumo de cortes de carne comercializados de manera estandarizada.La materialidad de Mariano Miro da cuenta de una nueva organizacion y distribucion del consumo derecursos faunisticos, mas cercana o similar al que se observa en las pequenas urbes en crecimiento,rompiendo con la configuracion del espacio rural pampeano de fines del siglo decimononico
